Title: Language and Culture

Nearly all people of the Little Red River Cree Nation speak the local dialect of Woodland Cree. Although nearly all members are fluent in English as a second language, in the communities of this Nation the primary language of communication continues to be Cree.

Kayas Cultural College, evolved from the LRRCN's Kayas Center, continues the promotion and celebration of the local Cree language and Culture as a primary mandate.

A significant challenge, expressed by the people of the LRRCN and its Chief and Council, is to ensure that the local Cree language is retained.

To achieve this, KCC is:
Providing curricular and resource assistance. see LRRCN Cree Language & Culture Curriculum, Learn Syllabics, or Play Cree Ball
Collecting, preserving and sharing local Cree language and culture content and materials. see How the Elders Lived
Promoting Cree usage in media. see Cree Messages
